I find myself immersed in a sense of vicarious travel through the deeply sensorial words of this talented writer. If you need an escape, one that fills you with wonder and reflection, take a trip with Observations Afoot!
I'm recommending 'Pen of Ben' because: 1. His title is awesome. 2. His writing moves me. 3. He has a great, self-deprecating sense of humor that I appreciate.
I love the truth and vulnerability in Beth Kempton's writing. The way she links beautiful words and ideas together to support her readers inspires me. Her book 'Kokoro' is absolutely lovely and I'm so glad I ordered a copy!
Susan's books 'Quiet' and 'Bittersweet' are fantastic and have had a significant impact on how I teach, Coach, parent, and live! I highly recommend her work in all forms, especially her 'Quiet Life' Sunday candlelit chats.
I want to write as raw and eloquently as Clover Stroud when I grow up. I think I'm older than she is, but still, she's incredible! I am now the proud owner of all of her memoirs!
David McIlroy is a Substack master and I learn SO MUCH from him on a daily basis! This is one of the VERY few stacks that I pay for, but he offers a TON of value and an abundance of resources whether you are a paid or free subscriber.
I am a self-diagnosed quote-a-holic. It thrills me to no end that people who lived completely different lives from my own somehow uttered words that resonate so deeply with me in present time. 'Philosophy Quotes' provides such a nice little taste of one amazing human's thoughts at a time so that it is not overwhelming at all and I find myself remembering, and applying, the quotes more easily in this fashion.
I do not know Annie, but she feels like 'home' to me. Everything she writes sounds familiar to me, as if I've had the same thoughts and worries and wonders. I find her writing very comforting and very 'real,' which are my favorite qualities in a writer.
This is author Adam Grant's Substack and I am a fan of his writing and speaking engagements. I recently finished his newest book 'Hidden Potential,' and I enjoyed his honest storytelling layered with relevant research that is applicable to many aspects of my life: teaching, coaching, being an all-around decent human trying to get by in the world. I also really enjoyed his podcast appearance on Ten Percent Happier. Check him out!
Jon is a social psychologist and the author of the New York Times Bestseller 'The Anxious Generation,' which I know will remain one of my go-to teaching/coaching resources for a very long time. He is an excellent speaker and writer about the ways that we have caused an epidemic of mental illness by coddling our children and students. I agree with nearly every single thing he says and I highly recommend his books, speaking engagements, and writing.
So clever and entertaining! I never miss an 'episode' of her bookshop drama!
Without sugar-coating her downsized lifestyle in the Scottish Highlands, Molly's writing soothes the soul and encourages readers to think about what matters most in their lives.
It's hard to capture in words what Poetry Unbound means to me, but I'll try. Each Substack post, podcast, and especially the anthology '50 Poems to Open Your World' is like a mini-restorative-meditation to me. I love poetry, but I think even if you don't, you will still walk away with some precious little life nugget of wisdom to apply to your world just by engaging with one single piece of 'Poetry Unbound.'
I'm not a very techie person myself, so I am always eager to learn how Substack works and how it may work best for me. On Substack is a fantastic place to begin and continue learning!
